THE STORY SO FAR…

 

Hailed  as  “The  Greatest  Theatre  Star  of  her  Generation”  by  The  Evening  Standard  and  with  over  a  decade’s  worth  of  experience  in  the  television,  film  and  theatre  industry,  Sheridan Smith  has  earned  her  title  as  Britain’s  most  captivating  young actress.

TV

Sheridan made  her TV debut in  1999,  where  she played the eccentric character ‘Matilda’ in ITV’s comedy series Dark Ages. Shortly after this she was cast as  ‘Emma’  in  the  British  sitcom  The  Royle  Family. After  a  successful year in the series, she moved on to star as ‘Janet Smith’ in the long running cult series ‘Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps’ until her departure from the show in 2009. During her eight years on the sitcom she became a renowned household name.

Sheridan has made her mark on the entertainment industry as one of Britain’s most versatile actors  from  such  memorable  roles  such  as  Mrs  Biggs (the  wife  of  the  notorious  convict  Ronnie Biggs) and The C Word, a captivatingly dark drama in which she played her late friend Lisa Lynch. One of her crowning moments was being named Best Actress at the 2013 BAFTA TV Awards and being nominated for an International EMMY for her portrayal of ‘Charmaine Biggs’.  Supplementary  to  this,  she  won  the  National  TV  Award  for  her  highly  acclaimed  portrayal  of  British  icon  Cilla  Black  in  ITV’s  3-part  drama  Cilla  and  was  nominated  for  her second BAFTA and International EMMY. Other recent work includes Moorside, a TV drama based on the true story of Shannon Matthews. Recent television projects have included ‘Care’ for the BBC and the ITV Primetime Drama ‘Cleaning Up’ aired in early 2019.

Her numerous television credits include Gavin and Stacey,  Love  Soup,  Grownups,  ITV1’s  Benidorm,  BBC  1’s  Jonathan  Creek,  The  Scapegoat,  Dates, The 7:39, Inside Number 9 and ITV’s Black Work.

For Christmas 2020, Sheridan will re-join on-screen friend and collaborator, David Walliams in a SKY special ‘After Ever After: Jack & The Beanstalk’ playing The Woman with No Name.

In 2021 Sheridan will star in Jeff Pope’s new BBC One Drama, ‘ Four Lives’, and in a break from traditional dramas, Sheridan is set to present a brand new entertainment show in 2021 for BBC One, ‘Pooch Perfect’.

FILM

Prominence  on  the  big  screen  came  in  2012  opposite  Maggie  Gyllenhaal  and  Jonathan  Pryce as  ‘Molly  the  Lolly’  in  ‘Hysteria’  and  ‘Tower  Block’  with  Jack  O’Connell; Dustin Hoffman’s ‘Quartet’ and Universal’s ‘The Huntsman’ and ‘Winter’s War’, joining an all-­‐star ensemble cast including Chris Hemsworth, Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron, released in 2016. 

THEATRE

Sheridan made her stage debut at the Donmar Warehouse as Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods with Damien Lewis and Sophie Thompson. She has also appeared at the Royal Court in The People are Friendly and the Hampstead Theatre in Ancient Lights  and  it  was  soon  after  this  that  Sheridan  earned  her  first  Olivier  Award  Nomination  for  her  performance  in  Little  Shop  of  Horrors  at  the  Menier  Chocolate Factory and in the West End. 2009 saw her earn her first Olivier Award and WhatsOnStage Award for her role of ‘Elle Woods’ in the West End production  of  Legally  Blonde  the  Musical.  Following  this,  she  won  the  2012  Olivier  Award  for  Best  Supporting  Performance  and  the  Evening  Standard  Theatre Award for Best Actress for her role of ‘Doris’ in Flare Path, a Theatre Royal production directed by Trevor Nunn.

2012 saw Sheridan take on the title  role  in  Ibsen’s  classic  Hedda  Gabler  at  the  Old  Vic,  winning  the  WhatsOnStage  Best  Actress  Award  for  her  performance  as  the  chilling  and  manipulative anti-­‐heroine. A highly celebrated run at The Savoy starring in Funny Girl , playing ‘Fanny Brice;’ a role last played by Barbara Streisand. After a sell-out 2018 tour and a production that received 4 and 5 star reviews, clearly there was no stopping Miss Smith.

Sheridan spent the summer of 2019 playing The Narrator in the revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the world famous London Palladium.

In October 2020 Sheridan will reprise her award winning TV role, Cilla, on stage. A limited nine-week run will see the show, ‘Cilla - The Musical’ open in Cilla Black’s home town, Liverpool. The tour will then visit Aylesbury, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Leeds.

recordings & TOuring

Late 2017 saw Sheridan sign a recording deal with East West Records. Her debut album as a recording artist was released via the Warner Music label last year and was certified GOLD. A sold out UK tour followed in early 2018, with included a night at the famous Royal Albert Hall. Her follow up album ‘A Northern Soul’ was released in Autumn 2018 and garnered exceptional reviews.
